KHATS 13...Speak Life!

 
So often I hear mothers, usually single mothers, speak SO harshly to their children.   "What's wrong with you!!!...You always doing something dumb!!!...That was so stupid!!! You look so ugly." - Saying things like this to your children will bring only death.  Death to their spirit.  Death to their love, trust, and admiration for you.  Death to the atmosphere of your home, or of the atmosphere of the public place you are visiting.  And death to your child's potential. 
Mothers,  SPEAK LIFE! 

I understand that so often you are tired and frustrated because of the everyday dealings of life; but don't take it out on your child(ren).  When they do dumb things...and they will; or when they do clumsy things - correct them with a loving spirit or ignore it until YOU can address it calmly.
Once again this is an issue of self control.  Temperance (Galatians 5:22-23)  Life will be harsh enough for them without us adding to its harshness.  As the saying goes...if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.  That applies to us moms as well as children.

I'd like to take it a step further and encourage you to speak the Word of God to them.  I am not saying quote scripture AT them.  I am saying use Bible words when speaking to them. (ie Obey, be kind, was that a wise choice?, etc.) Let the Lord be our example in this area.  Remember that He spoke the world into existence.  I wonder what we could speak into our children if we purposed to do so.

Happy Valentine's Day!

I hope you all and your loved ones are doing well.  I am enjoying my Valentine's day. 

How do you like my photo for the back cover of my book?  I had about 15 to choose from and this I thought made me look "approachable" and happy.  I had intended to straighten my hair then curl it; but I am glad I didn't because it was extremely windy and cold that day so I am sure I would have looked a mess! 
Hubby and kiddos are doing well.  So thankful for the family God has given me.  Raymond and I were talking the other night about important choices that we have made in the past that we are glad about.  Both of us concluded that it seems that some of the small ones have turned out to be the most important. 




My challenge for you today is to make good small choices!  They make a big impact on your life in the long run!

HEEELP!

I heard this story last week at a conference we were in and wanted to share it with you.  We know an older couple who just started a church like ours in a neighboring town.  They are former missionaries who had to come back home to take care some medical issues with family.  Well, they have a son and daughter in law (a white couple) who cannot have children; so they have decided to adopt.  Thus far they have adopted one Black young boy (age three) who is just so adorable.  They are in the process of adopting a little Asian boy as well.  Sometimes when you adopt you get children with interesting habits.  This little boy has one that I think is HILARIOUS.  One day as the mom was getting the little boy out of the car seat and getting ready to go into Wal-mart he started helling, "HELP!, HELP!, HELP!" at the top of his lungs.  She finally got him to calm down and the day went on with no other hiccups; but the next time they went shopping he did the same thing, "HELP!, HELP!, HELP!".  (Keep in mind that this is a White parent with a Black son.)  She said she finally had to start spanking him for doing that.  She has also now decided to start carrying around her proof of adoption papers with her just in case.
